Recycling empty HP 305 cartridges: free through HP
An empty cartridge doesn't belong in general waste: it contains a print head, a chip and leftover ink.

Free returns to HP
HP takes back empty original HP cartridges free of charge through HP Planet Partners. According to HP you can order postage-paid envelopes or labels and return the cartridges by post.
What about compatible or remanufactured cartridges?
These can't go back to HP. We haven't yet checked other UK routes — such as retailer take-back schemes or council recycling centres — individually for this page, so we don't list them. Ask the shop you bought the cartridge from, or your local council.
What happens next
HP describes returned cartridges being recycled, with material going back into new HP products. 305-ink.com doesn't publish its own life-cycle assessment; this is general information. If you'd like to weigh reuse when buying, read original or compatible.
